The Royal Palace of Naples was built by the architect Domenico Fontana, in 1600. It was the dwelling of the Spanish vice-roy, the French kings Giuseppe Bonaparte and Joaquin Murat and the Bourbon family kings.
The building was turned into a museum which contains the original furniture used by the kings of Naples who used the palace as a dwelling. Part of the builnding is hosting Naples National Library within which there is the famed Accademia Ercolanese research centre, where the papyri found at the buried town of ancient Herculaneum are now being examined.
We will visit the monumental staircase leading to the Royal apartments, the Court Theatre, the Museum hosted inside the rooms used by royal family and the Palatine Chapel, with its particular marble altar.
